Since joining Inje University in 2002, I have passionately dedicated myself to advancing the fields of artificial intelligence and IT-based healthcare. Over the years, my work has encompassed groundbreaking innovations in medical informatics, deep learning, and natural language processing, all aimed at addressing critical challenges in healthcare. As the Dean of the AI Convergence College and Head of the Smart Computing Lab (SCL), I have had the privilege of leading transformative projects that combine state-of-the-art technology with a vision for improving global healthcare. Each achievement reflects the combined efforts of a dynamic team and a shared commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in healthcare innovation.

At the heart of our work is a strong commitment to fostering global collaboration and attracting exceptional talent. Our lab has been honored to participate in the prestigious Government Korea Scholarship (GKS) program, a flagship initiative by the Ministry of Education to support outstanding international students. Since 2022, this program has helped us welcome scholars from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, enriching our research environment with fresh perspectives and ideas. The GKS program has positioned us as a leading international research hub, where the exchange of knowledge and expertise thrives. This initiative not only elevates our lab’s global reputation but also strengthens our ability to tackle pressing challenges with a truly interdisciplinary approach.

Beyond our role in education, I have spearheaded numerous large-scale national projects aimed at addressing pressing healthcare issues. These include the National Program for Excellence in Software and the Brain Korea 21 Project, both supported by the Korean government. Under these initiatives, we have made significant progress in developing AI-powered diagnostic tools, biosignal-based wellness systems, and smart healthcare devices. In addition to advancing technology, these projects reflect our commitment to meaningful societal impact by improving accessibility to healthcare solutions and providing innovative tools that enhance the quality of life for individuals worldwide. Collaboration with renowned institutions such as Baek Hospital(백병원) and global partners has been a cornerstone of our success, ensuring our work remains grounded in real-world applications. Looking to the future, my vision remains steadfast: to create transformative healthcare solutions powered by AI while cultivating a vibrant and diverse research community. The GKS program and our international collaborations are vital pillars of this vision, enabling us to bring together talented minds from across the globe. By nurturing an inclusive and multicultural research environment, we not only foster groundbreaking innovations but also empower the next generation of global leaders in artificial intelligence and healthcare. Together, we aim to inspire bold ideas and develop impactful technologies that will leave a lasting mark on the world.
